The
art-installation, "Red" was in situ at the nature preserve of parque san Buenaventura, Panajachel, Guatemala, for the weekend of the Dia de los Muertos, 2003. It commemorated the 35-year struggle in which so many indigenous Mayans died.
Traditionally during the holiday children fly kites to show lost souls the way to heaven;Jorinde used this as her starting point to make painted silk hangings;while I let the spilt blood be my organizing thought for the hundreds of red squares lain ungridded on the earth.
